It was confirmed by producer Lauren Shuler Donner at the X-Men: Days of Future Past premiere that Tatum will be playing Gambit in the upcoming X-Men spin-off.
This news is particularly interesting, as Taylor Kitsch was cast as Gambit in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The producer also chatted with reporters at The Daily Mail, stating that she would like to see Gambit, Deadpool, and X-Force to the screen in their own spin-offs, which would have Tatum starring in his own trilogy, much like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine trilogy.
Tatum, on Gambit as a character and why he’d love to play him:
“Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south – my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida – I don’t know. I just related to him,” says Tatum.
“He’s the most un-X-Men X-Man that’s ever been in X-Men. Other than maybe Wolverine, who’s like the anti-hero. He’s a thief. He’s not even a hero… If the stars align, I would die to play it.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theatres on May 24.
There is also a sequel, titled X-Men: Apocalypse, tentatively scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
How do you feel about Channing Tatum replacing Taylor Kitsch as Gambit?
You can tell who is a Marvel fan by watching the people in the theatre. If someone is a casual fan, they leave when the credits roll; if someone is slightly more into the Marvel movies, they know to stay for the mid-credit scene. But it’s the hardcore fans that know to stay for the post-credit scene.
The fans that stayed for the post-credit scene after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 were treated to a scene from X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is due to hit theatres May 23.
The scene heavily features the character Mystique, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and shows off the character’s awesome fighting skills.

X-Men: Days of Future Past also stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and Hugh Jackman.

Entertainment Weekly recently shared five exclusive new images from the highly awaited X-Men: Days of Future Past. The film is not set to come out until next May, but fans have been patiently waiting for some exclusives. These five new photos give us a sneak peek at some of the major characters in the film.
The first image gives us a look at Hugh Jackman as Logan, Michael Fassbender as Erik ”Magneto” Lehnsherr, and James McAvoy as Charles ”Professor X” Xavier. We also get a look at Jennifer Lawrence as her character Mystique and Peter Dinklage as Dr. Bolivar Trask. Of course, we also get another look at Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto.
This next film in the franchise was inspired by the original comic-book written by Chris Claremont and John Byrne in the 1980s. The casts from the original X-Men films and the recent prequel, X-Men: First Class will be brought together for a time-travelling journey. Wolverine (Jackman) is sent from the future back to the 1970s by Professor X (Stewart) and Magneto (McKellen) to change certain important events.
Bryan Singer directed the first two X-Men films and has returned to the franchise to direct Days of Future Past. In a recent interview he had this to say about the anticipated film: The stakes are high, not just for the world and the future but also the stakes of some of the characters. Clearly there was enormous fragmentation between the characters that happened at the end of First Class. That left the characters on a certain path. This movie will show you where those paths lead.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past will be hitting theaters near you on May 23, 2014. Are you an X-Men fan? Are you looking forward to this next film in the franchise? Who is your favorite X-Men character? What do you think of these new photos?
