The production and casting teams over at Lionsgate have been very busy with making official casting decisions and announcements for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. The studio has recently announced that actresses Natalie Dormer and Stef Dawson have joined the Mockingjay cast.
It was announced this morning that actor Evan Ross will also be joining the cast for the final two films of the franchise. Ross will be portraying Messalla, who flees the Capitol with Cressida (Dormer), Castor, and Pollux. All four of them form a film crew and become a part of Katniss’s rebellion, filming her journey through the Districts.
What do you think of this casting choice? Are you looking forward to hearing more casting news for Mockingjay? Do you think that Ross fits the role of Messalla?
Even though Catching Fire is not hitting theaters until November (exactly 89 days for those counting down), Lionsgate has started production on the Mockingjay films. Over the past few days, some major casting announcements have been made and two actresses have signed on to be a part of the Hunger Games cast. Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer and Australian actress Stef Dawson have officially signed on to be in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and 2.
Dormer will be portraying Cressida, a resident film director who fled the Capitol with Castor, Pollux, and Messalla. The crew ends up becoming a part of Katniss’s rebellion and filming her experiences and journey through the Districts. Cressida is a unique character as she is bald and has several tattoos. The expected transformation that Dormer is to undertake will probably make her unrecognizeable to Thrones fans.
Dawson will be portraying Annie Cresta, the romantic interest for Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin). Annie herself is a victor who won the 70th Annual Hunger Games, but went through a mental breakdown after losing her District 4 partner in the Arena. In Catching Fire, she is selected to go back into the Arena for the Quarter Quell and Mags (Lynn Cohen) ends up taking her place in the games. However, the Capitol arrests Annie in Mockingjay as a way to upset, torture, and manipulate Finnick.
What do you think of this casting news? Do you think Dormer and Dawson will do well in these roles? Are you looking forward to seeing these actresses as their characters? Sound off in the comments below!
Many Hollywood stars were surely coveting the role of Batman in the Man of Steel sequel. Several casting rumors have been circulating over the past few days, but we finally got an official announcement today that actor Ben Affleck will be portraying the iconic superhero.
Director Zack Snyder will be returning to lead the production and actors Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Amy Adams, and Laurence Fishburne are all currently set to return as cast members. News about this exciting sequel is slowly starting to come out as production begins its early stages.
In a recent interview, president of Warner Brothers production Greg Silverman, had this to say about casting Affleck in the role: “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”
Snyder also weighed in on the casting choice by saying: “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
Warner Brothers has the sequel is under the working title of Batman VS. Superman and a worldwide release date set for July 17, 2013! What do you think of this interesting and unexpected casting choice? Are you looking forward to hearing more production news about Batman VS. Superman?
As of today, there are only 100 more days until the highly awaited Hunger Games sequel hits theaters! To celebrate this exciting countdown milestone, Entertainment Weekly has exclusively shared details on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire world premiere.
The world premiere is going to be held on November 11, 2013 in the beautiful city of London! That makes the premiere only 90 days away for those who are counting. As of right now, no details have been made available as to if there will be a live feed of the premiere, but I would assume there will be. When The Hunger Games premiered Yahoo! Movies held a live feed for fans who couldn’t make it to the actual premiere.
Catching Fire is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Willow Shields, Jena Malone, Sam Claflin, Jeffery Wright, Amanda Plummer, Alan Ritchson, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Lynn Cohen, and Meta Golding.
Do you hope they have a live feed available online for the world premiere? Would you go to London in order to experience the premiere? Are you looking forward to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘s November 22 theatrical release?
Most fans of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire are probably still recovering from the excitement of watching the incredible trailer released back in mid-July. However, a newer (and unfortunately, shorter) international trailer has been released for fans to watch!
This new trailer is fairly similar to the one that was just released in July, but it is more streamlined and to the point. Fans of the character Gale (Liam Hemsworth) will definitely be happy because we get to see a bit more of him in this one. As in the previous trailer, we get to see the effects of the rebellion, some of the new tributes, and the Quarter Quell arena.
Something that is new and exciting to see in this trailer is a better look at the hovercraft vehicles used by the Capitol. Even though we did see them in The Hunger Games, we did not get to see a whole lot of details of the outside of the hovercraft, until now.
Watch the exciting new international teaser trailer and share your thoughts in the comments below! Are you looking forward to Catching Fire‘s November 22 theatrical release? Were you hoping to see more in this new trailer? Do you want more exclusives released for this film?
With the tragic and sudden passing of Glee star Cory Monteith, the production team is not only going to be grieving the loss, but they must set a course of action for production.
A Fox executive told The Wrap that they are unsure if production will begin in late July as scheduled or if it will be pushed back to a later date. Season five of the hit show was supposed to premiere on September 19, but that may also have to be pushed back until a later date.
Executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk and 20th Century chief executives Dana Walden and Gary Newman, must now find a way to carefully weave in a sudden absence for Monteith’s lead character Finn Hudson.
Now that his character Finn has graduated from high school and is attending the University of Lima, it may be easier for the writers and producers to find a way to explain an unexpected absence. Of course, we will just have to wait until the show airs again in the fall to find out how the showrunners will handle it, but rest assured that it will be handled tastefully.
I would just like to take a moment to send my condolences to Cory Monteith’s friends, family, his girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele, fans, and all of the cast and crew involved in Glee who are mourning the loss of this talented young man. It is so unfortunate when the world loses such a bright star like Mr. Monteith. I am personally a fan of the show and am absolutely devastated by this loss. May he rest in peace.
