Movie Exclusive – “Divergent” Sequel Finds a Director

Summit Entertainment recently announced that they have officially found a director for the second movie in the Divergent series. Just as with the book series, the sequel will be called Insurgent.

The studio has decided that director Robert Schwentke will helm the next instalment. Production on Insurgent has been pushed ahead and it is already set to be released on March 20, 2015. Due to this tight scheduling, the studio, unfortunately, is not able bring back director Neil Burger, as postproduction on the first film will be conflicting with preproduction for the sequel.

Schwentke and Akiva Goldsman will be working on the script based off of a draft that was previously written by Brian Duffield. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher will also be producing Insurgent and representing Red Wagon Entertainment.

Divergent will be hitting theaters March 21, 2014 and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Ashley Judd, Ray Stevenson, Tony Goldwyn, and Jai Courtney.

Casting News – Hugh Jackman Officially Joins Joe Wright’s “Pan”

Hugh Jackman does not usually play the villain, but it looks like he will be journeying into new acting territory in the Joe Wright-directed Pan. The actor will be taking on the role of Blackbeard in the Warner Brothers Peter Pan prequel.

Jason Fuchs will be penning the script for this adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s classic story. A new part of the narrative will focus on the relationship between Peter Pan and Captain Hook working together before Hook ultimately turns evil.

Casting News – Natalie Portman Joins “Macbeth” Adaptation

Just the other day, news came to light that actor Michael Fassbender will be playing Macbeth in the new film adaptation of Shakepeare’s “Scottish play.” However, there was still no word as to which actress would be playing Lady Macbeth.

It has now been officially reported that Oscar winner Natalie Portman has signed on to play Lady Macbeth in the Justin Kurzel-directed adaptation. For those of you just hearing about this adaptation, the screenplay will be penned by Todd Louiso (Love Liza, Hello I Must Be Going) and Jacob Koskoff, who have worked together before on a film entitled The Marc Pease Experience.

Those of you who are traditional Shakespeare enthusiasts will be glad to hear that the classic story will remain the same as the play, set in 11th century, and presented in the original Shakespearian dialogue.

Fassbender and Portman have worked together a few times before as well on Terrence Malick’s current music scene movie, which is still in production. Plus, Fassbender was set to be in the western that Portman is starring in and porducing, Jane Got a Gun. Unfortunately, Fassbender had to back out of the project.

What do you think of this casting choice for Lady Macbeth? Are you looking forward to this particular adaptation of Macbeth? Do you think it is better to keep the story the same and present it in the original dialogue? Do you think Fassbender and Portman will have the chemistry needed for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth?

Casting News – Michael Fassbender Cast in New “Macbeth” Adaptation

Shakespeare nerds (including my mama) will be very excited and interested to hear that actor Michael Fassbender has signed on to a new Macbeth film adaptation. Fassbender reportedly will be signing on to play the leading role in  “the Scottish play.”

This new film version of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays is going to be directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) and the screenplay will be written by Todd Louiso (Love Liza, Hello I Must Be Going) and Jacob Koskoff. Louiso have worked on a script together before for a film entitled The Marc Pease Experience.

Many previous film adaptations of the Scottish play have tried to set the classic story in a different settings, but that will not be the case with this version. The story will remain the same, it will be set in 11th century,  and presented in the original Shakespearian dialogue. Kurzel has stated, however, that this version will be more “visceral” and have “significant battle scenes.”

Production on this project is moving quite quickly and filming is currently set to start later this year. Keep checking in for more follow-up and news about this Macbeth adaptation.

Who do you think should play Lady Macbeth? Are you excited for this particular adaptation? Do you think Fassbender is right for the role of Macbeth? Are you a Shakespeare enthusiast?
