Television Exclusive – “Glee” Star Grant Gustin Joining “Arrow”

Fans of the hit television show Glee may know actor Grant Gustin as the tricky and conniving Dalton Warbler, Sebastian Smythe, but he is now going to be playing a bit of a different role on the CW’s Arrow.

The actor was recently cast in a guest starring role as Barry Allen or The Flash for the sophomore season of Arrow. A Warner Brother’s TV representative shared with The Wrap that this could potentially help Gustin transition into starring in a backdoor pilot for a new spinoff, Flash.

Barry Allen is being described as a Central City assistant forensic investigator who is investigating a series of unsolved robberies that may have a more personal connection to his troubled past.

As the TV network did with their new Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals, episode 220 of Arrow this season will act as the backdoor pilot for Flash. Gustin will be guest starring in episodes 208, 209 and 220, which will all be written by Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns. The pilot will serve as an origin story for The Flash.

What do you think of this interesting casting news? Are you looking forward to the second season of Arrow? Do you think that this new “backdoor pilot” format has been successful for the network?

Television Exclusive – First Look at “The Vampire Diaries” Season Finale

The cast of The Vampire Diaries are finally graduating high school in the season finale entitled, “Graduation.” Entertainment Weekly has our first look at the finale, which airs May 16.

The show’s executive producer, Julie Plec, sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly and had this to say about this important episode of the show:

“It’s difficult to throw an event in Mystic Falls without it going catastrophically awry, but one of the things that was really important to us is that we do give this event itself its due. We approached this episode, in its own way, like a series finale because our character’s graduating from high school is a shift in the show to open up a lot of new storytelling opportunities and new environments. So we really wanted to be able to get all the emotion out of this episode that we could before we move on to a different life. We made sure that in spite of everything that’s going on in the midst of it, we still get those great friendship moments and nostalgia moments that I, as a fan of TV over the decades, loved so much on high school shows as you reached that milestone.”

Plec also revealed: “There will definitely be an altercation resulting in some blood loss, but that’s about all I can say.” It sounds like this episode is going to be pretty intense and filled with a lot of exciting of plot twists! According to the episode synopsis Mystic Falls will be “overrun with ghosts intent on settling old scores and fulfilling their supernatural destinies.”

What do you think of these new stills? What do you think of the interview with Julie Plec? Are you glad that the cast is finally graduating high school in this episode? What do you think will happen in this episode between the vampires and Silas? Will you be tuning into the season finale when it airs?

Television Exclusive – CW Orders Full Season for “The Originals”

Last night was the “backdoor pilot” premiere of The Vampire Diaries spin-off, The Originals. The CW Network has announced that they will be moving ahead and ordered the show to series.

Although the overall ratings were down last night for The Vampire Diaries, the network realizes how successful the show has been over the years and are hoping the spin-off will share the same success. Plus, the network also realizes the impact the show has in social media and online streaming.

A CW executive, Mark Pedowitz, shared his thoughts on the show in this statement: “As soon as we saw last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, we knew we wanted more of The Originals. Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with The Vampire Diaries, which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for The Originals.”

CW has also ordered new seasons for (of course) The Vampire DiariesBeauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie, Arrow, and Supernatural. However, there has been no news on Nikita or The Carrie Diaries yet.

What did you think of The Originals premiere? Do you think this show will have the same success as The Vampire Diaries? Who is your favorite original vampire? What did you think of the new characters introduced in this episode?

Television Exclusive – First Look at “Vampire Diaries” Spin-off “The Originals”

Back in January, it was announced that the CW Network was beginning to develop a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries. This new show is now officially entitled The Originals and will be premiering on April 25, 2013. Well, the network got moving fairly quickly with filming the show as photos from the first episode have been released already.

Entertainment Weekly recently shared eleven (11) new photos from the pilot episode. These photos give us a look at  Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Claire Holt, and Phoebe Tonkin returning as their respective characters and newcomers  Charles Michael Davis, Daniella Pineda, Leah Pipes, and Malaya Rivera Drew as their characters.

Davis will be playing Klaus’ former protégé Marcel, who has now created a community of Vampires in a town in New Orleans. Pineda will be playing Sophie, a witch who, much like Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) from The Vampire Diaries, comes from a long line of witches that have been in the French Quarter for hundreds of years. Sophie believes it is her responsibility to lead a charge against Marcel and his oppressive ways. Pipes will be playing a human psychology student named Cami who has a difficult time believing in the supernatural world. Finally, Drew will be playing Sophie’s sister Jane-Anne, who is also a witch.

What do you think of these new characters? Will you be interested in watching The Originals when it premieres? Do you think it will be successful? Who is your favorite Original Vampire?

Casting News – “Vampire Diaries” Actress Claire Holt to Co-Star in “The Originals” Spinoff

Back in January, the CW announced that the network has been working on a Vampire Diaries spinoff series (tentatively) titled The Originals. Along with this announcement, they also revealed some information about the plot and casting for the spinoff. Take a look at my post with details on that here.

More recently, it has been announced that actress Claire Holt will be joining co-stars Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Daniel Gillies (Elijah), and Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) in this new series. Of course, she will be playing her Vampire Diaries character Rebekah.

Are you excited that she will be joining The Originals? Will you be watching the pilot on when it premieres on April 25?
