Casting News – Jennifer Lawrence joins “The Rosie Project” adaptation

The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that actress Jennifer Lawrence signed on to the upcoming adaptation of Graeme Simsion’s The Rosie Project.

The romantic dramedy follows Don Tillman, a socially awkward genetics professor as he tries to find the perfect partner. However, plans become derailed when Rosie Jarman comes into his life and needs help finding her biological father.

Columbia Pictures is developing the project with Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (The Spectacular Now, (500) Days of Summer and The Fault in Our Stars) writing the screenplay. There is currently no news on a new director or who will be playing Don, the male lead. Stay tuned for more details as this project develops.

Movies – “Foxcatcher” Teaser Trailer and Cannes Oscar Buzz

Foxcatcher is an upcoming dramatic thriller that has funny-man Steve Carell as the lead role. Sounds like an odd choice right? Well, according to reviews that are emerging after Monday’s Cannes Film Festival screening, Carell may just be one of this year’s Oscar contenders.

The film is based on a true story and follows Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his brother, Olympic Champion Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), on their athletic journey. Sadly, their schizophrenic coach, John duPont (Carell) murdered Dave and Mark ends up fighting for justice for his brother. Watch the teaser trailer below:

Carell’s performance is not the only one gaining praise. Ruffalo and Tatum’s performances as the Schultz brothers are also gaining early critical acclaim and Oscar buzz. If the reviews on Variety, IndieWire, and The Hollywood Reporter are any indication, this is definitely not a film to miss.

Foxcatcher is directed by Bennett Miller, who has already had two films make it to the Oscars, Capote and Moneyball. According to IMDb, Miller is already nominated for the Palme d’Or Award (the top honor at the Cannes Film Festival) for Foxcatcher

First Official Poster for Disney’s “Girl Meets World”

The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively shared the first official poster for the highly awaited Disney series, Girl Meets World. This new poster showcases the cast very nicely and reveals the official Girl Meets World logo.

The poster features Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) are standing with their son Auggie (August Maturo) and Riley’s best friend, Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). Of course, the poster would be incomplete without the girl herself, Riley (Rowan Blanchard) is standing below them holding a globe at her fingertips.

Currently, there is still no set premiere date for the series, but it is expected to premiere sometime in the late summer or early fall. Watch the first teaser here and stay tuned for an official premiere date!

Television Exclusive – Cast of HBO’s “The Normal Heart” talk costumes

The cast of HBO’s upcoming TV movie drama, The Normal Heart, talked about some of their favorite costume pieces and behind-the-scenes fun with The Hollywood Reporter.

Normal Heart follows the tragic story of the 1980s AIDS epidemic and gives audiences an in-depth look at the tragedy through different perspectives. The Hollywood Reporter will be releasing a special issue featuring interviews with the cast and director, which reveal the extensive 30-year journey to get the film made.

The Normal Heart is directed by Ryan Murphy and stars Taylor Kitsch, Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, Jonathan Groff, Matt Bomer, and Denis O’Hare. Will you be watching The Normal Heart when it premieres on May 25, 2014?

Casting News – Zac Efron to Star in and Produce “The Associate”

The Hollywood Reporter shared that actor Zac Efron will be starring and producing an adaptation of John Grisham’s The Associate.

Efron will be playing a Yale Law School grad who ends up being blackmailed by a group of criminals. These criminals force him to take a job at one of the world’s largest law firms so he can spy on powerful defence contractors.

The actor will also be producing under his production company, Ninja’s Runnin Wild, along with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher, who will be representing Red Wagon Entertainment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next step for the producers is to find a screenwriter and then take it out to studios.

Efron has had a very busy year so far! He was in the comedy That Awkward Moment with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, which he also produced. Plus, his other comedic film, Neighbours, that was released on March 8.

TIFF 2013 – Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave” Wins Toronto Audience Award

The Steve McQueen-directed historical drama 12 Years a Slave was awarded top honours today at the  2013 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The highly awaited film was awarded the Toronto Audience Award today during the awards luncheon.

Other films that have won this award include Oscar-winning films American Beauty, Silver Linings Playbook, and Slumdog Millionaire. This is a very prestigious award and often winning this award leads to other nominations and to potential Oscar wins .

12 Years a Slave is base off of the true story of Solomon Northup’s life as a slave. Northup was a free man living in upstate New York, until he was kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1841 and eventually freed in 1853.

This film has an absolutely stellar cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, Quvenzhané Wallis, and Alfre Woodard. If you have not seen the trailer, be sure to watch it here.

Movie Exclusive – First Trailer for “CBGB” Starring Alan Rickman

The first official trailer for the Randall Miller-directed film, CBGB, has officially been released! Miller also co-wrote and co-produced the film based off of events that occurred at the CBGB music club in Manhattan. The name of the iconic club stands for Country, Bluegrass, and Blues, which Alan Rickman’s character, Hilly Kristal, makes quite clear in the trailer.

Back in May of last year, it was officially announced that actress Malin Akerman would be joining the project as Blondie singer Debbie Harry. Well, in this new trailer we get our first look at Akerman in character as Blondie herself.

Rupert Grint is also part of the cast and he will be playing Dead Boys guitarist, Cheetah Chrome. The film’s star-studded cast does not end there as actors Ashley Greene, Stana Katic, Johnny Galecki, Ryan Hurst, Justin Bartha, Donal Logue and Bradley Whitford are all a part of the cast.
