The author of the novel Americanah announced that the book’s film rights have been optioned by Nyong’o on Thursday.

The announcement was made via twitter: “@StylistMagazine: Lupita Nyong’o has optioned rights for the film version of Americanah, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie confirms #stylistbookclub”
The Root gives a great synopsis of the best-seller: “Americanah is a love story that centers on a young man and woman from Nigeria who face difficult choices and challenges in the countries they come to call home. The book was selected as one of the 10 Best Books of 2013 by the editors of the New York Times Book Review and it won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award (Fiction).”
This is the second book by Adichie to hit the big screen; the film adaptation of her book Half of a Yellow Sun is currently playing, and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton.
This is the first major film announcement concerning Nyong’o since her Oscar win for 12 Years a Slave.
