Casting News – Actress Jennifer Lawrence to Star in and Produce “Rules of Inheritance”

News has recently surfaced the Jennifer Lawrence will be starring and producing in a film adaptation of Claire Bidwell Smith’s memoir, Rules of Inheritance. Even though the actress already has a very busy schedule with four films (The Devil You Know, Serena, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and American Hustle) coming out this year. However, as most actors and actresses do, she is planning ahead and lining up more projects for the future.

Suzanne Bier will be directing the film and Abi Morgan is writing the screenplay. Smith’s memoir is a powerful coming-of-age story that follows a teenage girl as she is losing both of her parents to cancer. Here is an official synopsis for Rules of Inheritance (via Amazon):

A coming-of-age story that is both heartbreaking and exhilarating.

In this astonishing debut, Claire Bidwell Smith, an only child, is just fourteen years old when both of her charismatic parents are diagnosed with cancer. What follows is a coming-of-age story that is both heartbreaking and exhilarating. As Claire hurtles towards loss she throws herself at anything she thinks might help her cope with the weight of this harsh reality: boys, alcohol, traveling, and the anonymity of cities like New York and Los Angeles. By the time she is twenty-five years old they are both gone and Claire is very much alone in the world.

Claire’s story is less of a tragic tale and more of a remarkable lesson on how to overcome some of life’s greatest hardships. Written with suspense and style, and bursting with love and adventure, The Rules of Inheritance vividly captures the deep grief and surprising light of a young woman forging ahead on a journey of loss that humbled, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

This film was directed by David O. Russell and he adapted Matthew Quick’s 2008 novel of the same title. It has an absolutely amazing cast behind it, including (as previously mentioned) Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Julia Stiles, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker, John Ortiz, and Shea Whigham.

Silver Linings Playbook follows Pat Solatano (Cooper), a teacher who has had a bad string of luck and ended up losing everything – his house, his job, and his wife. After spending time in a state institution on a plea bargain, he ends up living with his parents (De Niro and Weaver.) Pat wants to rebuild his life,  stay positive, and try to reunite with his wife, even with the circumstances of their separation. Pat’s parents are concerned about him and want to make sure that he can get back of his feet and begin to function normally again. However, Pat meets a mysterious girl with problems of her own named Tiffany (Lawrence) and things start to get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he’ll do something important for her in return. An unexpected bond begins to form between them and both of their lives change for the better. This movie is set to hit the theaters November 21, 2012.

A little interesting fact for you – Lawrence and Cooper are also going to be appearing together in the 1929-set Serena, which is set to be released sometime in 2013.
