Television Exclusive – Disney Orders “Girl Meets World” to Series

Disney Channel executives announced today that the highly anticipated Boy Meets World spinoff, Girl Meets World, has officially been ordered as a series! However, the network has not announced or determined how many episodes for the order, production is still set to move forward. This is a big decision for the network and the pilot has aired on television yet, so the executives must believe that the show will be a success!

In a recent statement Disney Channel Worldwide’s original programming executive vice president, Adam Bonnett, had this to say:

Boy Meets World and its story of adolescent self discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens. In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter Riley Matthews in Girl Meets World and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans.”

Rowan Blanchard was cast as Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley, and Sabrina Carpenter was cast as her best friend, Maya. Plus, Teo Halm was cast as Riley’s older brother Elliott, Peyton Meyer was cast as a potential love interest for Riley named Tristan Friar, and Corey Fogelmanis was cast as the super-smart fellow student,  Shamus Farkle. William Daniels will also be returning as his character Mr. Feeney and there is also a possibility that Rider Strong will be returning as Cory’s best friend, Shawn Hunter.

Show creator Michael Jacobs had this to say about the exciting developments with Girl Meets World:

“I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids,” Michael Jacobs, who created Boy Meets World. Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.”

The spinoff is set in New York City and Cory is now a history teacher at the junior high Riley attends and Topanga owns a local diner, which also acts as a popular after school hangout spot. What do you think of this news? Do you think the series will do well? Are you looking forward to the series premiere of Girl Meets World?
