Casting Scoop – Jessica Chastain to Star in “The Zookeeper’s Wife” Film Adaptation

Those following the career of actress Jessica Chastain will know that these past few years have been quite busy and instrumental in launching her into stardom with critically acclaimed films such as The Help, The Tree of Life, and Zero Dark Thirty under her belt. However, Chastain is not your typical Hollywood over-night success story and she has worked quite hard to get where she is today.

The talented actress was recently signed on to the film adaptation of Diane Ackerman’s novel, The Zookeeper’s Wife. Chastain was also recently cast in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak and will be filming that before moving on to this project.

The novel is set in the World War II era based on a true story. It follows the journey of the keepers of the Warsaw Zoo, Jan and Antonina Zabinski, who saved hundreds during a Nazi invasion. When the German troops invaded Warsaw, the Zabinski’s zoo was destroyed. However, the Zabinski’s took it upon themselves to hide Jewish people in empty cages and in their home.

Chastain will be playing Antonina Zabinski and there is no word yet as to who will be playing her husband. This adaptation will be directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider) and produced by Jeff Abberley, Mike Tollin, Kim Zubick, Diane Miller-Levin, and Robbie Rowe-Tollin. Plus, Angela Workman wrote the script for this filmThere is the potential that this project will be “hitting the market” at Cannes this year.
