Casting Scoop – Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks to Join “Into the Woods” Adaptation

Broadway fans maybe intrigued and excited to hear that production and casting is picking up for the movie adaptation of the classic fairytale musical Into the Woods.

The Hollywood Reporter has shared that actors Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks to join the cast of the Rob Marshall-directed movie musical. If Pine and Gyllenhaal sign on, they will be playing Cinderella’s Prince and Rapunzel’s Prince. These characters are also brothers who are both very self-absorbed and snobbish.

For those of you unfamiliar with the musical, it follows a Baker and his wife who go on a journey to find the witch who cast a spell on them and try to lift a family curse. On their journey, they cross paths with several quirky and interesting characters, including Rapunzel, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood.

Meryl Streep and Johnny Deep have both already signed on to the project as the vain and evil witch and the wolf, respectively. Although the deals for Pine and Gyllenhaal to join the cast have not officially started, they have auditioned for Marshall. If these deals are made official, both actors will be making their movie musical debut.

John DeLuca is producing and James Lapine wrote the screenplay for the anticipated adaptation. The original Tony-winning score is by Stephen Sondheim. However, David Krane will be working on the music for the film. Even though there is currently no release date set, the production is considering starting in the fall.

Are you a fan of the musical Into the Woods? Are you looking forward to seeing a movie version of this classic show? What do you think of these potential casting choices?
