Trailer and Photos – “Oz the Great and Powerful”

The first official trailer has been released for Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful. This reinterpretation is directed by Sam Raimi and includes a cast with actors such as James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, and Zach Braff.

Here is a link to the trailer: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/ozthegreatandpowerful/

Entertainment Weekly has also gone through and “dissected” the trailer and released some photos: http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20399642_20611436,00.html

When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician is hurled away from Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s in the right place and he will be able to gain fame and fortune, that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams). These three witches are not convinced he is the great wizard that everyone has been expecting. Oscar is reluctantly drawn into the problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants and he must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well. Look for this film to hit theaters March 8, 2013.

First Look – “Oz the Great and Powerful”

Well, the clash of the Snow White films is over and it is now on to the clash of Wizard of Oz films. There are three films in the works that are going to be using the story. There is an animated version starring the voice of Lea Michele, a CG/stop-motion version from the Corpse Bride co-director Mike Johnson (which is still in very early development stages), and Disney’s live action prequel, Oz the Great and Powerful.

Disney has released a teaser poster for Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful. Disney does not own the rights to the 1939 film so audiences will not be seeing the classic ruby slippers when Oz the Great and Powerful hits theaters. However, in the poster there is plenty of classic Oz imagery that you will be able to recognize.

The cast includes Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Zach Braff, and James Franco as Oz – or Oscar. In this version of the story Oz is known as Oscar at the beginning of his journey and then he finds himself whisked away from a Kansas circus to that magical land of Oz. Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful is set to hit theaters March 8, 2013.

What do you think of this poster? Are you looking forward to seeing the new versions of this classic story?

Trailer MegaPost – “Lawless,” “The Great Gatsby,” “Take This Waltz,” “The Words,” and “End of Watch”

I hope that you enjoyed my trailer MegaPost last week and are now excited about those films that I shared! My favorite trailers that I want to share with you this week are for: Lawless, The Great Gatsby, Take This Waltz, The Words, and End of Watch.

1. Lawless: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/weinstein/lawless/

This film has a very strong cast and Shia LaBeouf’s role as Jack Bondurant could be a comeback role for him, something that will set him apart from the Transformers franchise. Other cast members are: Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, and Dane DeHaan. Lawless is based on the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers, who were bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Franklin County, Virginia. Lawless is set to release on August 29, 2012.

The Baz Luhrmann-directed adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby has an all-star cast with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki, Amitabh Bachchan, and Jack Thompson. 3. Take This Waltz: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/magnolia/takethiswaltz/

The cast includes Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Luke Kirby, Sarah Silverman, Jennifer Podemski, Diane D’Aquila, Vanessa Coelho, and Graham Abbey. The film follows a happily married couple, Margot (Michelle Williams) and Lou Rubin (Seth Rogen). However, Margot falls for the artist Daniel (Luke Kirby) who lives across the street and when she learns that he lives so close, the certainty of her domestic life changes. 4. The Words: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/thewords/

The Words follows a writer Rory Jansen (Bradley Cooper) who finally achieves the literary success he wanted after publishing a critically acclaimed novel. Yet, he didn’t write it. As things come back to haunt him and he continues to get literary attention, Jansen is forced to confront the price that must be paid for stealing another man’s work. The cast includes Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons, Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde, and Ben Barnes. The Words is not set to hit theatres until September 21, 2012.

5. End of Watch: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/endofwatch/

A story of family, friendship, love, honor, and courage, End Of Watch has a great cast and story. Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, Frank Grillo, America Ferrera, and David Harbour are on the talent roster. Gyllenhaal and Pena are Los Angeles police officers Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Zavala (Pena), and it follows them as they patrol the streets of south central LA. The action of the film unfolds through footage from the handheld cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and even citizens caught in the line of fire. The film deals with the cops who risk their lives on the job and the price they and their families have to pay. This action-packed film is set to release on September 28, 2012.
