Casting Scoop – Jena Malone in the Running for Johanna Mason Role in “Catching Fire”

Entertainment Weekly has announced that Stepmom and Sucker Punch star Jena Malone is in the running for the role of Johanna Mason in The Huger Games: Catching Fire. Malone began her acting career at 12 years old in the acclaimed Showtime movie Bastard out of Carolina and as a young Jodie Foster in the sci-fi drama Contact. Plus, she recently appeared in History’s rating-record-breaking miniseries Hatfields & McCoys.

Personally, I think that she would do an excellent job as Johanna Mason and do the role justice. She is a very strong actress and could do well as being apart of the Hunger Games franchise.

Entertainment Weekly also confirmed that Alice in Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska is not in the running for the role and she has not been approached by Lionsgate about being in the film. According to Wasikowska’s reps, she would not be available for filming anyway as she has conflicting projects.

What is your opinion on Malone possibly being cast in this gritty role? Are you anxiously waiting official casting announcements for Catching Fire?

Lawless is based on the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers, who were bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Franklin County, Virginia.
