Actress Naomi Watts has two Oscar nominations under her belt and with recent production changes for her biopic, Diana, it looks like she is poised for a third. The talented actress is portraying the People’s Princess in the awaited biopic, which Oliver Hirschbiegel directed. Entertainment One recently announced that Diana will be officially hitting theaters in limited release on November 1, 2013.
As perviously reported, the film is following the last two years of Lady Di’s life and her romantic relationship with heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Khan (Lost‘s Naveen Andrews). Of course, the film also touches on the highly public relationship and divorce between the Princess and Prince Charles.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hirschbiegel had this to say about Diana as a character: “She finds that love that she’s always been longing for and she’s always been deprived of. She is the most complex character I’ve ever had to deal with.”
The release date being moved into the beginning of November puts the film in a good position to be considered for award season. However, this year is a big year for film and Ender’s Game, Last Vegas, Dallas Buyers Club, and Free Birds are also premiering on November 1.
What do you think of the release date change? Do you think Watts could finally win her Oscar this year? Are you looking forward to seeing her as lady Diana?
