Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes look at Season Two of “Smash”

NBC’s Smash will be returning in just seven weeks! For those of you who are fans of the show, this is very exciting news of course. However, you will also be excited to know that NBC recently posted a behind-the-scenes video for season two.

This video gives fans an exclusive look at what is to come in season two. Plus, the cast talks a bit about the “new energy” Smash has going into the new season as they have a new showrunner and executive producer, Joshua Safran. Watch the behind-the-scenes video here.

Safran recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly and he revealed a little bit about season two and simple changes that were made to the overall feeling of the show. In the interview he states:  “There’s no bowling alley sing-alongs. There are fantasy sequences, but so far not on the level of the Bollywood cover.”

Safran also addresses what was like replacing Theresa Rebeck and heading into a second season: “Coming into a show second season where there was so much discussion about positives and negatives about the first season gives you that rare chance to step back and go, ‘What can I change?’ So we were able to [revisit] things like the scarves. We address it head on.” Finally, he wanted to let fans know that things are not going to drastically change and he wanted to remain loyal to the overall feeling of the show: “As a viewer, I really loved the show. It’s literally just reaching in and moving the tiny pieces that weren’t connecting, the gears that weren’t fully aligned. But it’s small shifts. If you loved Smash last year, you are not seeing a radically different show. And that was important to me because I loved Smash last year.”

You can read the rest of the interview with Safran in the recent issue of Entertainment Weekly. What do you think of the behind-the-scenes video? What do you think of the interview with Josh Safran? “Smash” – Season Two Cast Changes

NBC has recently announced that four characters will be leaving for season two of the network’s new hit show Smash. If you are a fan of the show and are up to date with what has happened, then you won’t be upset or shocked about the cast changes being made.

The season one showrunner, Theresa Rebeck, will be backing out of the show and allowing the new showrunner Josh Safran (Gossip Girl) to step in. Karen Cartwright’s (Katherine McPhee) unfaithful fiance Dev (Raza Jaffery)  and the sneaky assistant Ellis (Jamie Cepero) will be leaving the show and will no longer be regulars for the second season. However, sources say that they will both be in an episode or two at the beginning of the season to have a proper ending to their storylines. It has also been reported that Brian d’Arcy James, who played Julia’s (Debra Messing) husband Frank, and Will Chase, who played Julia’s former lover Michael, are leaving Smash. In the finale, Frank saw Julia comforting Michael on stage and assumed that they were being unfaithful again. The show will also be casting three new regular roles that will appear in the second season.

NBC plans to return Smash in midseason, giving time for new showrunner Josh Safran to polish the series. What do you think about the new casting changes? Are you excited for season two!?
