Fox Searchlight Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming drama, Far from the Madding Crowd. Based on the novel by Thomas Hardy, this story has been around since 1874 and is set in Victorian era England.
This is not the first time that Hardy’s classic novel has been adapted for the screen. MGM released a feature-length version back in 1967 and there was a TV movie distributed by PBS in 1998.
Here is a synopsis (via IMDb) for those unfamiliar with the story: “In Victorian England, the independent and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak, a sheep farmer; Frank Troy, a reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood, a prosperous and mature bachelor.”
Starring Carey Mulligan, Michael Sheen, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge and Juno Temple, this updated version will surely delight fans of the recent film adaptations of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.
Far from the Madding Crowd will be hitting theaters May 1:
Fox Searchlight Pictures is a distributor for an upcoming historical drama entitled, Belle. This film looks gorgeous and the story behind it is so inspiring. There have been fifteen (15) new images released from the film!
Belle is based on a true story about Dido Elizabeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who was an illegitimate mixed-race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. After her father falls ill, she is raised by her great-uncle (Tom Wilkinson) and great-aunt (Emily Watson); Lord and Lady Mansfield.
Even though Belle is part of a well-to-do family, her race prohibits her from partaking in family and social traditions. She falls for a young man named John Davinier (Sam Reid), who wants these close-mined ideals to change. In working together, Belle, Lord Mansfield, and John strive to end slavery in England.
Belle was directed by Amma Asante and also stars Matthew Goode, Sarah Gadon, Penelope Wilton, Miranda Richardson, and Tom Felton.
The film has already circulated through several festivals, but will be heading to theaters on May 2 in the United States. Festivals it has premiered at include Toronto International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, and the Montclair Film Festival. According to an article on The Hollywood Reporter, stars Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace are currently in talks to play the leads in Child 44. Ridley Scott and Michael Costigan will be producing the Soviet-era thriller and Daniel Espinosa will be directing.
The film is about a member of Soviet police and as he investigating child murder cases, the Soviet government begins to become suspicious of his behavior. If they get cast in these roles, Hardy would play the officer and Rapace would his wife. However, Hardy and Rapace will be quite busy shooting Fox Searchlight’s drama Animal Rescue together in March.
Do you think Hardy and Rapace will work well together? What do you think of this potential casting choice? Does Child 44 sound like a film you may be interested in seeing?
