Exclusive “Entertainment Weekly” Cover for “Divergent” Adaptation

Divergent is one of the most highly anticipated adaptations and is the main focus of this week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly!  Actors Shailene Woodley and Theo James are featured on this week’s cover as their characters Tris and Four.

Those unfamiliar with the world of Divergent, the society within the Divergent world is separated into five factions and each faction has specific values and rules they follow and enforce. In Abnegation they value selflessness, in Erudite they value intelligence, in Candor they value honesty, in Amity they value peace, and in Dauntless they value bravery.

In a recent interview, Woodley talked about her relationship with James and how they both feel about superstardom: “We’re not into the industry and have separate lives outside of it. That’s refreshing. I don’t know what I would do if Four was played by someone who cared what he looked like or spent more time in front of the mirror than I do.”

Divergent is directed by Neil Burger and also stars Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Ashley Judd, and Ray Stevenson. Check out the exclusive cover and a brand new still from the film below!

Movie Exclusive – First Look at Theo James as Four in “Divergent”

Entertainment Weekly has exclusively released the first still of Theo James as his character Four in Divergent. This exclusive still gives us a look at the scene when Four is showing the Dauntless  initiates around the faction headquarters.

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, the society within the Divergent world is separated into five factions and each faction has specific values and rules. In Abnegation they value selflessness, in Erudite they value intelligence, in Candor they value honesty, in Amity they value peace, and in Dauntless they value bravery.

Shailene Woodley’s character, Beatrice “Tris” Prior wants to join the Dauntless region. This is where the Dauntless leader, Four or Tobias Eaton, comes into the story as a love interest.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, James had this to say about the exclusive still:  “Is this the picture where I have a t-shirt on and no pants? I was really hoping they’d use that one.” James also talked a bit about the scene from when this image was captured: “I’ve introduced them to this world and they’re still in the beginning stages of training. At this stage you don’t really know what Four is all about.”

According to the article, the actors all went through a bit of a boot camp to get in shape before filming. At one point during the training, James was given a chance to lead the actors in the Dauntless training. Director Neil Burger reveals: “They didn’t know he was playing Four, they thought he was our stunt coordinator. He put them through it.”

Finally, James believes that it helped him get into character and set a tone for filming:  “I know it sounds ridiculous but it was really quite useful: it helped set a tone for those scenes, being able to live the character a bit.  At one point, Shailene was laughing and I got real serious with her and said”—the actor lowers his voice to a menacing whisper—”Don’t. Laugh. Shai was like, ‘um, are you joking right now?”

What do you think of this first look at Theo James as Four? Do you think he is right for the role? Will you go to see Divergent when it is theatrically released March 21, 2014?
