TrulyLuminary’s Top 5 Most Anticipated New TV Series

With all the new shows being ordered to series, we thought we’d make a list of the Top 5 that we’re looking forward to seeing! So, without further ado, the list:

5. Selfie

The ABC-produced sitcom, starring Karen Gillan and John Cho, is a modern adaptation of My Fair Lady. The series focuses on Eliza Dooley (Gillan), who is more concerned with her social media accounts and getting “likes,” than being liked.

“After suffering a very public and humiliating breakup, she becomes the subject of a viral video and suddenly has more social media ‘followers’ than she ever imagined — but for all the wrong reasons. She enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image.” Cho will be playing Henry, the man in charge of re-marketing Eliza.

Why are we excited about Selfie? Well, we’re glad you asked!

The series will show us a new side of the actors, who have done quite a bit of Sci-Fi/Fantasy work in the past; Gillan on the BBC series Doctor Who and in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Cho in the Star Trek reboot.

4. The Flash

The Flash

With all the hype around superheroes right now, there’s no question as to why The CW ordered DC’s The Flash to series! Starring Grant Gustin, this show got it’s start in an episode of Arrow.

In case you aren’t familiar with him, here’s a little bit about the character straight from DC comics:

“Young Barry Allen’s life stopped the minute his mother was murdered. The true killer never found, its mystery obsessed Barry, driving him to become a forensic scientist. Consumed by his work, he spent his life chained to his desk, solving every case that flew across it. But when a freak lightning bolt hits a nearby shelf in his lab, Barry receives super-speed, becoming the Flash. Now, he’ll race up buildings, across oceans, and around the world to get his man — while getting introduced to a world so much bigger than his old life of microscopes and cold cases.

Able to run at near light-speeds, his powers provide the ultimate caffeine kick: He can run up buildings, move so swiftly he phases through objects, create sonic booms with the snap of his fingers — and never needs to order delivery. Despite his speed, Barry can become so obsessed with crime-solving he can still lose track of everything else around him, leaving the fastest man alive constantly running a minute behind.”

Looks like The Flash will be airing at 8 PM on Tuesdays on The CW! Here’s a first look:

3. Gotham

Gotham Banner

It sure seems like DC comics will be taking the television route with their stories as they bring yet another adaptation of their comics to primetime.

“Gotham is a story about the origins of the great DC Comics super-villains and how they came to be. Catwoman, The Riddler, Penguin, Poison Ivy. What made The Joker The Joker? How Scarecrow became Scarecrow,” says Bruno Heller, writer and executive producer.

“A lot of what this show is about is the relationship with a young Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne.” (Mirror.)

What we’re excited about: the back stories! Who doesn’t want to know why these villains are the way they are?

The show will air on Fox on Mondays at 8 PM.

2. Marvel’s Agent Carter

Agent Carter first official artwork

Agent Carter is a spin-off of the hit ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.LD, and is very big news for fans of the Captain America franchise.

From Marvel’s website:

“Marvel’s Agent Carter, starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad.

Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.

Starring Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Marvel’s Agent Carter is executive produced by Christopher Markus, Steve McFeely, Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Jeph Loeb.”

The show will run for 13 episodes in the same time slot as S.H.I.E.L.D and will bridge the the time that S.H.I.E.L.D is on hiatus.

If this clip doesn’t convince you that Hayley Atwell is amazing, we don’t know what will!

1. How to Get Away With Murder

The ABC and Shonda Rhimes-produced legal drama is unlike anything we’ve seen thus far.

The  synopsis, courtesy of IMDb: “A sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller about a group of ambitious law students and their brilliant, mysterious criminal defense professor. They become entangled in a murder plot that will shake the entire university and change the course of their lives.”

Why we’re excited about it: Have you seen the trailer? No? Watch it!

What do you think of these new series? Which ones will you be watching? Did we miss one that you think should be on the list?

First Official Artwork for “Marvel’s Agent Carter” Released

Since ABC ordered Agent Carter to series a few days ago, Marvel has been hard at work creating the first official artwork for the show.

The artwork depicts a silhouetted Peggy Carter with the S.H.I.E.L.D logo in the background.

Agent Carter will have Hayley Atwell reprising her role as Peggy Carter from the Captain America movies. At this point in time it is unknown if Dominic Cooper will be returning to play Howard Stark, the father of Tony Stark.

The synopsis is as follows:
