Angelina Jolie in talks to direct “Captain Marvel”

That’s right, the Oscar-winning actress and director might be directing the first female lead Marvel movie! When Captain Marvel hits theatres in 2018, it’ll be the 19th movie in a series of interconnected movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

From cnet.com: “Captain Marvel is a name adopted by various characters in Marvel comics, beginning as alien soldier Captain Mar-Vell in 1967. The movie will focus on the current incumbent, Carol Danvers, who made her debut as an Air Force officer in 1968. From 1977 she was known as Ms Marvel, adopting the title of Captain Marvel in 2010 with a new costume designed by British artist Jamie McKelvie. The title role in the film is yet to be cast.”

Jolie’s past directorial endeavours were the 2011 film In the Land of Blood and Honey and Unbroken. Her next stint in the director’s chair will be a film that she’s also starring in – opposite husband Brad Pitt – By The Sea, which she also wrote.

If Jolie is chosen to direct, it’ll be refreshing to see a woman directing the first female-led Marvel movie.

What do you think of Jolie as a prospective director? Who do you think should be cast as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel? Our favourite suggestion so far: Natalie Dormer!
