Buckle your seat belts, Marvel fans, ’cause you’re in for a treat! Marvel and Sony have struck a deal that’ll make it possible to have Spider-Man in upcoming Marvel Studios productions, as well as potentially have other Marvel-owned characters appear in Sony flicks.
The only downside: this Spider-Man will not be based on either of the already-in-existence Peter Parkers. The new Spidey would be introduced in an already announced upcoming Marvel movie, very likely Captain America: Civil War, and would then have his own stand-alone film following that appearance.
Some reports say that Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, will be joining Amy Pascal as producer on the film.
“We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man,” Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. “This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”
