Paramount and Skydance Productions have confirmed rumours that Roberto Orci will be replacing J.J. Abrams as director on the next film in the Star Trek franchise.
Orci is currently writing the script with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Orci was apparently campaigning to replace Abrams as director for a while, as Abrams is busy directing the new Star Wars movie. Abrams will stay on as producer for Star Trek 3.
None of the cast, which includes Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, who are expected to be returning, know anything about the plot for the next instalment.
Variety reports that Orci and directing partner Alex Kurtzman will be going separate ways, as they both want to direct more projects and that will be better done if they split. Their production company will remain intact.
