Movie Exclusive – First Look at “The Giver” Starring Jeff Bridges and Brenton Thwaites

Actor Jeff Bridges has been working for almost 20 years to bring Lois Lowry’s The Giver to the silver screen. After a long journey of pitching and rejections, Harvey Weinstein finally agreed to take on the project.

Bridges originally wanted his father to play the role of The Giver, but he has since passed away. However, he has taken on the iconic role and is a producer on the film as well. Entertainment Weekly recently released two new photos from the film, giving us our first look at Bridges as The Giver and Australian newcomer, Brenton Thwaites, as Jonas.

For anyone who may be unfamiliar with the story, here is an official synopsis (via Goodreads): “Jonas’ world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.”

The Giver is directed by Phillip Noyce and also stars Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgård, Taylor Swift, Cameron Monaghan, Odeya Rush, and Emma Tremblay.

Will you be heading to theaters to see The Giver when it releases on August 15, 2014? What do you think of these new photos from the film? What do you think about the cast behind this project?

OMG, they’re making a movie of this! I remember reading the book when I was in elementary school.
