Actress Kate Winslet recently sat down for an exclusive interview with USA Today from the Divergent set. In addition to the interview, USA Today also released the first still of the actress as her chilly evil character Jeanine Matthews. From there, they must then go through a series of initiations to officially become a part of that faction. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) and her family are first introduced to Jeanine Matthews on the day Tris has to choose her faction.
Winslet had this to say about her character when talking to USA Today: “That’s the whole point of Jeanine. She walks down the corridor and sort of just leaves this vapor trail. I knew I had to bring that intimidation.”

However, the actress is a trooper had had this to say about the summer heat: “I’m holding up fine. I’m pregnant, but it’s not at the point where it becomes impossible. Sometimes you just have to roll with it.”
Due to her pregnancy, Winslet was late showing up to the Chicago sets and did not have a chance to properly meet her cast mates. She used this fact to her advantage: “I wanted to break it and say, ‘It’s OK, I’m really fun. I promise.’ But I thought, just for today, I’d let them think that I am a complete bitch.”
Author Veronica Roth is very impressed with Winslet work on the film so far and is excited about what she has brought to her character. Roth had this to say to USA Today: “Kate has gone with a very subtle, even well-meaning villain. She’s not a mustache-twirling Disney type. She brings the menace in a very quiet way.”
