Francis Lawrence became the director for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire after Gary Ross announced that he would not be directing the next film. Ross felt that he would not have enough time to prepare and do the film justice. Back in July, it was announced that Lionsgate had made the decision to divide Mockingjay into two films. Lionsgate was also reportedly searching for a director who could handle the tight production schedule proposed for the final films of the franchise.
The Collider has reported that Lawrence has officially signed on to direct both of the Mockingjay films. His directing credentials include films such as Water for Elephants, I Am Legend, and Constantine.
This may be a good sign and could mean that Lionsgate trusts Lawrence with the franchise. What do you think of this decision? Are you looking forward to hearing more about Catching Fire production?
