Casting Scoop and Rumors – “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

Those who are fans of The Hunger Games will be excited to know that announcements and rumors about the sequel are starting to pick up. The first big announcement that was released by Lionsgate was announcing actress Lynn Cohen has been officially cast a District 4 victor, Mags. Here is an official press release from Lionsgate:

“Santa Monica, CA, August 2, 2012 – Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire are pleased to announce that Lynn Cohen has been cast in the role of Mags in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. A former mentor to Finnick Odair, Mags is an eighty year old Hunger Games victor from District 4.

Known to New York theater audiences for decades of memorable roles, Cohen has also appeared in critically acclaimed films such as Steven Spielberg’s Munich and Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, NY, as well as commercial fare such as Sex and The City and its sequel. She can next be seen in They Came Together, with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler.”

There is also rumor that the Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman actor Sam Claflin is the frontrunner for the role of Finnik Odair. Here is a report from Deadline:

“Sam Claflin has been the favorite, but he had a problem with an option owed to another studio the presented date problems. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter stars Ben Walker, Boyd Holbrook and Tyler Hoechlin were the other competitors for that role, but it looks now like things have cleared for Claflin and that he’ll play the role. You’ve seen him in Snow White and the Huntsman and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

And finally, there is rumor that Lionsgate is going to use locations on the island of Oahu for filming. This still has not been confirmed so be sure to check in to see if anything changes! What do you think of all of this news? Are you getting even more excited for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire?

OH – and one more thing that might get you excited, Josh Hutcherson has been seen with his blonde hair again so that must mean they are getting pretty close to the start of filming! 😉
