“Catching Fire” – Finnick Odair Casting Rumors

There are a lot of rumors and speculation about who is going to be playing the District 4 tribute Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Finnick  is 24 years old and described as being very handsome and tall with tan skin, bronze hair, and stunning sea-green eyes, making him very popular with people in the Capitol. While in the arena for the Quarter Quell, Katniss is hesitant to make Finnick her ally and does not trust him— he seems to her to be shallow, arrogant, and superficial. As I mentioned, rumors have been floating around about who is going to play him in the film.

Actors such as Robert Pattinson, Taylor Kitsch, Hunter Parrish, Chace Crawford, Armie Hammer, and Chris Zylka have all been rumored to have auditioned for the role. However, both Pattinson  and Kitsch have denied the rumors and said that they have not and will not be auditioning for the role.

Recently, The Insider confirmed that Glee actor Grant Gustin auditioned for the coveted role:

“Grant’s fans have plenty of projects to look forward to — not only will A Mother’s Nightmare premiere later this year on Lifetime, but the actor reveals he has officially thrown his hat into the ring to play Finnick in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire! “I have auditioned for the role,” he says, confirming lots of fan desire/speculation. “I don’t think [the producers] know what they’re looking for just yet, but yes, I auditioned for the role.'”

Another rumor that surfaced today is that actor Sam Claflin is a frontrunner for Finnick and has been offered the role:

“Sources tell Zap2it exclusively that the most coveted role in The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire has been cast — and British actor Sam Claflin has got the gig. Official reps for the film won’t comment on the casting, but our reliable sources reveal that producer Nina Jacobson and Lionsgate have signed off on Claflin’s offer.

The British actor is best known for playing Kristen Stewart’s childhood sweetheart, William, in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” He also had a role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, as Philip.”
