Rising Star Monday – Olivia Munn

Well, today is Monday so do you know what that means!?! It is time to talk about another Rising Star here on TrulyLuminary! Due to the recent success of Magic Mike, this week our Rising Star is the model and actress Olivia Munn.

Munn’s career in film and television started in 2004 and she has been in movies such as (previosuly mentioned) Magic Mike, I Don’t Know How She Does It, and Iron Man 2. Her television credits include the shows Perfect Couples, Chuck, Greek, and Beyond the Break.

Munn is of Chinese background on her mother’s side and of German and Irish background on her father’s side. Her parents got a divorce and mother re-married when she was two. Her stepfather was in the United States Air Force and the family moved a lot. Munn was mainly raised in Tokyo, Japan, which is where the military had stationed her stepfather. During this time, she had participated in local theater productions, and later was a model in the Japanese fashion industry. Her parents divorced (again) and she moved back to Oklahoma to go to Putnam City North High School for her junior and senior years. Munn also attended the University of Oklahoma where she majored in journalism and minored in Japanese and dramatic arts.

She also has some charity work under her belt working with organizations such as PETA and Dosomething.org. With PETA she worked on campaigns against the use of animal fur and she helped raise awareness and to free a sick elephant who was with a travelling circus. With Dosomething.org she helped with the “Green Your School Challenge” and was a spokesperson for the campaign in a PSA raising awareness about the challenge. She also was on the panel of judges that evaluated the entries.

Olivia Munn is a very busy women and has done a lot to make a difference. Have you seen her in the movies and shows I mentioned? Do you think she will have a big career?
